Women's Soccer Tops NECC Preseason Poll, Men Finish Fourth

CAMBRIDGE, MA. -- The New England College Conference (NECC) has released their Men's and Women's Soccer Preseason Polls for the 2021 season, with the Lesley Women's soccer team finishing atop their poll and the Men's soccer team coming fourth in their poll.

The women's soccer defending champion Lynx look to hold onto their title as they earn three of four first place votes in the poll. The Lynx, led by head coach Paul Vasconcelos, have won the past three NECC championships and return a group of seniors to lead a strong defensive front. After allowing only 0.99 goals per game in 2019, Kerrie Larson, Sophie Smurthwaite, and Kayleigh Chicas all return to hold the back line, while Claire Hounslow and Chloe Kouyoumdjian lead the scorers up front.

The men's team earned three points in their poll, finishing in fourth place. After finishing as the runners up in the 2019 championship match, the Lynx are now led by new head coach Steven Siragusa. Returning from the 2019 team are grad students Armando Bahena and AJ Genova, along with juniors Daniel Monteserin, Christian Fox, and Sean Pugatch. The Lynx will look to develop their young players and grow as a team this season in hopes of returning to championship matches very soon.

The NECC Women's Championship game will be held on Saturday, November 6th, while the Men's game will be held on Sunday, November 7th. Both semifinals will be held on Wednesday, November 3rd. More information about preseason polls can be found here for women's soccer and here for men's soccer.
