Student-athletes participate in NCAA Leadership Conference

ORLANDO, Fla. - From May 25-29 in Orlando, Florida at the Walt Disney World Resort, two of Lesley's student-athletes participated in the NCAA National Student-Athlete Development Conference. Numerous student-athletes applied to participate the annual conference and Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, Mass.) and Scott Wheeler (East Hampton, Conn.) were honored to be two of 233 participants from each division invited to attend.
The mission of the conference is to provide a diverse group of the nation's top student-athletes an opportunity to actively participate in challenging and thought-provoking activities that will enable them to become better leaders on their campuses and in their communities. Each institution from all divisions is allowed to nominate four student-athletes who have demonstrated an ability or strong desire to be leaders and would benefit from a significant leadership experience.
As a result of participation, student-athletes will enhance their communication skills, decision-making and problem-solving skills, critical-thinking skills and collaborative skills. The conference also promotes better communication among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and communities. Topics for past conferences have included developing leadership skills, changing perception, developing political skills and utilizing the student-athlete committee.
Lani and Scott will look to use the leadership skills that they gained at the NCAA National Student-Athlete Development Conference in their experiences at Lesley University. Both student-athletes, along with representing three sports on campus, are active members of Lesley's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee which is geared towards promoting the student-athlete on campus through positive programs.
