CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lynx Head Coach Mike Rocco has announced that starting pitcher Ryan Genua (Prospect, Conn.) will serve as captain for the 2013 campaign after being elected by his teammates. The junior will lead a squad that looks to improve on an 8-26 record amassed during the 2012 season. Genua led the team last year in innings pitched and was second in starts and wins.
"It is an honor to be voted captain by my teammates," said Genua. "I may be the only captain but there are several leaders on our team and as long as we are working to accomplish the same goal we will be successful."
"I am looking forward to the start of the season - this should be the most successful season of our short history as a program. Our goal is to make the conference tournament this year. Anything short of that accomplishment, we will consider the season a failure."
Confident with the leadership qualities of the team as a whole, Rocco is excited for Genua's opportunity.
"I couldn't be happier for Ryan that he has been named captain by his peers. Since his first day on campus as a freshman, Ryan has been a leader - leading by example and by what he has to say. Now as a junior, he has the complete respect and trust of the players and coaches in this program. We have other great leaders in this program as well that will help Ryan, but Ryan as a voice for the players was a great decision."
