Cambridge, Mass- The Lesley University Baseball team released their 2018 schedule in early January. The Lynx are coming off their best season in program history, including winning their first NECC Conference Championship in walk-off fashion against Mitchell College. The season came to a close in the Mid-Atlantic Regional losing to Shenandoah, after a 15 inning win against Rochester Institute. The Lynx ended the season with a 22-19-1 overall record and 9-9 in NECC play.
"We are eager to get going and are extremely motivated to build off our success from last season," said NECC Coach of the Year Billy Cather. "We have a strong senior class returning for 2018 (Cather's first recruiting class), where they helped build the foundation of the program over their four years on campus. Tom Muratore and Nick Iadevio have been two of the top weekend starts in the conference, while Jeff Heinz has been the most dependable arm we have out of the bullpen. We are also expecting a strong season from Justin Clark, both on the field and on the mound," Cather concluded on this veteran returners.
The Lynx kick off their season playing eight games in Florida during their annual spring break trip. "Playing games against strong programs outside our region will be a great challenge early, and help prepare us for our conference schedule," says Cather. "The NECC gets stronger every year and we look forward to defending out title against some of the best programs in the northeast."
Cather adds eleven newcomers to the squad and says they came in prepared and ready to battle for spots in the line up. "The new players really impressed the coaching staff. They will fill a number of roles needed for another successful season," Cather concluded.
The Lynx open up their eight game stretch in Florida on March 9 when they play St. Joseph's College (NY) in a double header.
