Men's basketball ranked third in preseason poll
Whitingham, Vt. - The Lesley University men's basketball team placed third in the North Atlantic Conference preseason poll after a 2006-2007 season in which the team went 14-13 (9-6 NAC).
Placing just behind Elms College and Husson College, the Lynx are coming off a season where the team was knocked out the NAC Tournament in the semifinals by Husson College. Lesley is led by first-team all-conference guard Joe Chatman (Dorchester, Mass.) who in the conference ranked 4th in scoring, 4th in assists, and 1st in steals. Chatman was a model of consistency at the line as he finished 1st in the nation for division III basketball.
Along with Chatman will be Mark Stevens (Las Vegas, Nev.) who will play a much larger role than last year. Averaging 9.9 ppg in the conference, Stevens is a versatile guard who the Lynx will look to often for leadership. Dana Dattilo (Derry, N.H.), Sam Mead (Worthing, ENGLAND), Frannie Cusick (Lexington, Mass.), Malcolm Andrews (Medford, Mass.), and Matt Grassa (Everett, Mass.) will also be contributing significant playing time in the Lynx up-tempo style offense. Transfers Jesus Trejo (Methuen, Mass.) and Elliot King are expected to make a significant impact in their first year at Lesley.
"This year we've got the tools to make a significant impact in this conference," commented Head Coach Scott Willard. "Our players now have one year experience in my style of offense and our preseason play has reflected that. This ranking only solidifies our spot as one of the top teams in the NAC."
