CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University men's volleyball team honored three seniors who played in their final home match of their collegiate careers and defeated Regis College 3-0 (30-9, 30-20, 30-27). The Lynx finished the regular season 6-17 and will now look forward to the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Semifinals against Daniel Webster College on Saturday afternoon.
Regis dropped to 5-21 following the loss.
Seniors Nick Assad (ANDOVER, Mass./Andover), Scott Wheeler (EAST HAMPTON, Conn./East Hampton) and Mike Jack (Buenos Aires, Argentina/St. George's) combined for 38 kills in the match with Assad leading the way with 15. Wheeler tallied 14 and Jack had nine for the Lynx attack.
The 14 kills by Wheeler tied him for the Lesley men's volleyball single season record for kills. Wheeler will have an opportunity to break that record on Saturday in the NECC Semifinals.
Regis's James Guaragna (QUINCY, Mass./Brighton) had a match-high 13 digs for the Pride defensively. Andrew Carroll (NATICK, Mass./Natick) had a team-high four kills in the loss.
Lesley's Stephen Siragusa (VALLEY STREAM, N.Y./Valley Stream) broke his own single-game record for assists with 47. The previous mark of 45 was set on March 4th against Mount Ida College.
The Lynx pulled off 30-9 and 30-20 wins in the first two sets but in the third set, Regis looked to get back into the match by amassed a lead late in the set. With the Pride up 26-23, Lesley ran off four straight points to take a lead they would not relinquish as they went on to win 30-27 to end the match.
Lesley's Tyler Reeves (COVENTRY, Conn./Coventry) was solid off the bench defensively with eight digs while Wheeler led the team with 12 digs.
Lesley will be in action on Saturday, March 27 at 1:00 pm against Daniel Webster College in the NECC Semifinals. Daniel Webster swept the regular season series against the Lynx with 3-1 victories both at home and on the road.
