Spring Training Day Two
Ft. MYERS, FL - Day 2 of spring training saw the Lynx extend their winning streak to three before falling to Rutgers-Newark in their second game.
The Lynx opened their second day with a solid 6-2 win over New England College in which the team erupted for 11 team hits. Jodi Fralick (Woburn, MA) continued her hot start to the year as she scored two runs from the leadoff position. Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, MA) reached base all three of her times up as she was 2-2 with a walk and a run scored. Gianna Spaziante (Hawthorne, NY) and Sarah Wilson (Lowell, MA) provided the power as they hit for three and two RBI respectively. The team also saw Alacia Pari (N. Providence, RI) become more comfortable at the plate as she was 2-2 with a run scored.
Christina Anzilotti (Pelham, NY) pitched an absolute gem for the Lynx as she went the distance without giving up an earned run. Anzilotti pitched seven innings, giving up six hits, while striking out two and walking two. With the win Anzilotti improved to 2-0 on the spring.
The Lynx exploded out of the gate against New England and led 5-2 after two innings. Following a scoreless third the Lynx tacked on another run to stretch the lead to 6-2. Anzilotti cruised from there and the Lesley softball team improved their record to 3-0.
Lesley's try for four straight wins came up very short as Lesley got beat by Rutgers-Newark 13-2 in their final game of the afternoon. Rutgers pounded the Lynx for 14 hits en route to the win.
Maureen Mikos (Fairfield, CT) suffered her first loss of the season as she gave up 13 runs on 14 hits.
The Lynx jumped out to a 2-0 nothing lead early, and lead after two and a half innings 2-1. However, the Lynx collapsed in the third and fourth innings giving up six runs in each inning.
The offensive effort was led by Georgia Saltzman (Lynn, MA) who went 2-2 with two RBI. Cabral-Pini and Fralick each scored once to give Lesley its only two runs of the game.
The Lynx have a day off but return to action against Transylvania University and Framingham State College. Transylvania which is currently nationally ranked 24th, beat the Lynx badly in spring training in 2006 and Lesley is looking to return the favor.
