Lynx Drop Two One-Run Losses to Eastern Nazarene

Lynx Drop Two One-Run Losses to Eastern Nazarene

GAME OVERVIEW:

QUINCY, MA. – The Lesley Lynx Softball team dropped two close games to the opponent Eastern Nazarene on Saturday afternoon. The Lions took the first game 2-1 and the second game 3-2. The Lynx fall to 10-12 this season and 2-4 in conference play, while the Lions advance to 17-15 and 5-1 in the NECC.

INSIDE GAME 1:

  • The Lynx led most of this game by a score of 1-0. They got their first and only run in the top of the third inning after Lindsey Jensen singled up the middle to lead it off. Groundouts by Samantha Mecklenburg and Mahlia Medina sent Jensen around to third and she came into score as Megan Murphy reached on a dropped fly ball by ENC leftfielder Taylor Brandt.
  • Mecklenburg was fantastic on the mound, getting out of jams to keep the Lions off the board as long as she could. She induced a grounder in the first inning with two runners on to end the inning and another in the second inning that saw Darcy Castro thrown out at the plate for the Lions.
  • Eastern Nazarene finally got one around off of Mecklenburg in the bottom of the sixth inning. Aurora Adams led the inning off with a solo home run to tie the game at one, but Mecklenburg was able to limit it to only that.
  • The bottom of the seventh was Mecklenburg's first inescapable jam of the day. Danielle Maliszewski led off the inning with a bunt single and Alex Schwenger added a base hit. With runners on first and second, an error allowed Bailey Olaveson to reach and Adams capped off a perfect 3-for-3 day with a single to left field to walk it off.
  • Janelle Munoz picked up her tenth win of the season, allowing only the one run and striking out five Lynx. Mecklenburg took the loss despite having one of her best outings of the year.

INSIDE GAME 2:

  • The Lynx again went up 1-0, scoring in the top of the first this time. Medina singled to lead things off and moved to third on productive outs by Murphy and Jordan Day. After a walk by Ilana Zack, Antonia Kieran's base hit drove Medina home for her eleventh RBI of the season.
  • The Lions came roaring back in the bottom of the first, scoring all three runs they would need for the victory in the first frame. Adams continued her hot streak with a base hit to score Schwenger and Kiley Ozaki followed her up with bases-loaded single to drive in Brandt and Olaveson.
  • There would be no runs scored from that point until the top of the seventh inning. The Lynx had a chance to tie things up after a one out double by Medina and a single by Murphy to move Medina to third. Day drove Medina home with a double, but Murphy held at third. Munoz, who had come in to relieve Chelsea De Martini in the third inning, got two balls in the air to centerfield to strand Murphy and Day on the bases and pick up her second win of the afternoon.
  • Though they only scored twice, the Lynx did pick up eight hits in game two. Medina, Day, and Kieran each had two, while Murphy and Jess O'Neill had one each.
