Lesley ranked 8th in preseason poll

WHITINGHAM, Vt. - The Lesley University women's basketball was chosen by the league coaches to finish as the 8th best team in the North Atlantic Conference in a preseason poll that was released this week.

The Lynx finished the 2006-2007 season in 6th place in the NAC West with a record of 7-18 (4-14 NAC).  Despite the below average standing, Lesley has high expectations for this year's squad that will return a strong nucleus of starters and welcome a quality freshman class.  Veteran starters Courtnie Leakeas (Lowell, Mass.), Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, Mass.), and Kelly Harrington (Toledo, Ohio) along with talented freshmen Kaitlyn Wechsler (Merrick, N.Y.), Brianne Caira (Pelham, N.H.), and Cassidy Freed (Brattleboro, Vt.) will lead the team on the court.

Head Coach Dan Hunt commented on his team's preseason placement, "I'm happy with where we were seeded this year.  It gives us a chance to surprise some teams in this conference that may not expect us to be as good as I know we'll be.  We are going to use this poll as a motivation to improve our team."

Reigning NAC champions UMaine-Farmington was selected to repeat their success after going 25-4 (17-0 NAC).  Rounding out the top teams were Maine Maritime Academy, Castleton State College, and Husson College.

The Lynx will kick off their season this weekend at home in the Bon Appetit Tip-Off Tournament.  To find out roster, schedule, and other Lesley University women's basketball information please visit their website.
