Lesley promotes Tom Fay to head coaching job

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Former assistant coach for the Lesley University women's basketball program, Tom Fay, has been named the head coach for the upcoming 2008-2009 season.  Fay had spent the last two seasons rebuilding the women's basketball program and will now have his opportunity to take the team to the next level. 

Coach Fay, since his arrival at Lesley, has brought a tireless work ethic and enthusiasm for women's basketball to the job every day.  Fay, who prides himself on effective recruiting and player development, will now look to develop a winning formula for a Lynx program that has steadily improved each of the last two years.

Coach Fay's experience with the women's basketball program the last two seasons and his relationship with the current players will no doubt make for a seamless transition into the head coaching position.  With a solid, core group of players in place and a system that each player adopts whole-heartedly, Fay expects that the Lynx will continue to improve.

"I believe that this will be a breakthrough season for the Lesley women's basketball program," comments Coach Fay.  "We have eight returning players who have all made significant contributions to the team in the past two seasons.  That experience and shared desire for accomplishment, coupled with a continued commitment to defense and rebounding will pay its dividends."

With a strong foundation, Coach says he is not afraid to be flexible with his game plan.

"One of our strengths is that we have several players who display a diverse set of skills.  We have a great combination of size up front and experience in the backcourt, and we have always taken pride in being a team that shoots well and takes good shots."

The Lynx will face a difficult non-conference schedule this season, including a trip to Arizona to compete in a highly competitive tournament in the first semester.  Coach Fay knows, however, that it is not about what team they are playing but how well they prepare and perform under challenging situations.

As the Tom Fay era begins at Lesley, the program will look to continue their gradual improvements from the last couple of seasons and work towards building a program that can reach the top of the New England Collegiate Conference standings.
