Bridgewater State knocks off Lesley 73-56

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The Lesley University women's basketball team got 22 points out of Kaitlyn Wechsler (Merrick, N.Y.) and a double-double from Brianne Caira (Pelham, N.H.) but it was not enough to beat Bridgewater State College on Saturday afternoon. The Lynx fell to the Bears 73-56 and dropped their record to 1-3 on the season. Bridgewater State improved to 4-2 with the victory.
Wechsler led an extremely efficient Lynx squad at the free-throw line that shot 91% (19-of-21) as the sophomore was 8-of-8. Along with her 22 points, Wechsler grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists in the game as well.
Caira continued to be a presence in the low-post as the sophomore center tallied 13 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, a block and a steal. Six of her 13 rebounds were on the offensive glass.
Bridgewater State was paced by Corey Cuddihy (Scituate, Mass.) who had a team-high 20 points, 13 of which came in the second half. In that second half effort, Cuddihy helped expand the Bears lead to 15 points after the sophomore hit three straight three-pointers.
The Lynx turned the ball over 33 times, 21 of which came in the first half. Lesley also had trouble with their long range shooting, hitting just 1-of-10 attempts from three-point land.
Lesley will be in action on Tuesday night as they host their first home game of the season against Emmanuel College at 8 pm. Bridgewater State will host Curry College on Tuesday at 8 pm.
