Robinson promoted from within to lead Lady Lynx

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Following their 2008-2009 campaign towards the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) inaugural women's basketball championship this past March, Lesley University has promoted assistant coach Lucia Robinson to the head coaching position following the departure of Tom Fay.

For Robinson, taking the helm of the Lynx program will be her first opportunity as a head coach and she has already expressed her eagerness to get started with Lesley's championship defense.

"There were so many emotions that went through my head when I first found out the good news, but it still hasn't sunk in yet," said Robison.  "I'm just eager to get to work, I think.  I have so many ideas of things that I want to do and visions of what I want to see happen with this program."

Robinson played her collegiate ball at Bentley College for two seasons as the number two guard.  In her senior season, she was part of a Falcons team that reached the Sweet 16 in 2007.  Prior to college, Robinson was a three-sport star at Pope John XXIII High School in Everett, Massachusetts where she earned 11 varsity letters for the basketball, softball, and soccer teams.

As a coach, she's been an integral part to the development and growth of young basketball players at various camps around the region.  The Bentley Summer Camp, the Net Results Camp, and the Sarah Behn Camps have all been popular camps where Robinson has made her coaching impact over the past four years.

With the 2009-2010 season approaching and a strong core of returning players and talented recruits ready to get on the court, Robinson has high expectations for her first season.

"I have no doubt in my mind that we will be ready to defend our NECC title.  One of our other goals is to be in the running for at least an ECAC bid and judging by our talent and preparations, we are in a good position to do that.  I am feeling really good about the team's enthusiasm this offseason and I can't wait to get into the gym with everyone on October 15th."

From now until that first week of practice, however, Robinson will be back on the recruiting trail looking for promising young talent looking to be part of the Lesley women's basketball experience.  For Robinson, Lesley gives players the opportunity to be part of a passionate group of women who work hard 12 months a year to prepare for the season.

"Our team has a great attitude that translates into the intensity that they bring on a daily basis not only to games, but practices.  We win together and we lose together and we learn from those mistakes.  There's not many words to describe how satisfied and excited everyone is after a huge win that you've practice and prepared so hard for.  You just have to be there.  The passion that comes from the team is contagious.  It's difficult to not want to come to the gym every day and be a part of something so great and bigger than the individual."

Robinson and the Lesley women's basketball team will be back on the court this fall looking an improvement on their 17-10 record and a repeat of a conference championship.
