CHESTNUT HILL, MA -- Albertus Magnus College used a 13-0 first half run in opening up a 37-14 halftime lead as the Falcons soared, 64-26, over Lesley in the first round of the Pine Manor College Tip-Off Tournament.
A layup followed by a three-pointer from Lesley's Emily Fleming brought the Lynx to within one at 10-9 at the 12:00 mark of the first. Albertus' Lindsay Karle answered instantly with one of her three first half triples to ignite the 13-0 run, and 9-0 AMC run late in the frame featuring six points from Bianca Brown put the Falcons ahead 37-14 at intermission.
Albertus shot 4-10 from downtown in the first half, forcing 13 Lesley turnovers. Out of the break, a Sherrey Smith layup followed by another Fleming trey pulled the Lynx to within 41-19 after five straight Albertus points to open the half, but Lesley couldn't cut the margin to under 20 as the Falcons prevailed by the final of 64-26.
Fleming posted her first career double-double with 12 points and a game- and career-high 12 rebounds. Smith totaled a career-high six points on a team-best 3-7 shooting to go along with a pair of rebounds in 19 minutes. Carrie Fieger added five rebounds as Lesley fell to 0-2.
For the Falcons, Brown led all players with 21 points. Karle followed with 14 on 4-5 shooting from distance.
Lesley takes on the loser of Pine Manor and the College of New Rochelle in the tournament consolation game Sunday at 1 p.m.
