CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The College of New Rochelle raced to a 74-46 victory over Lesley University this evening in NCAA Division III non-conference action at the Nicholas Athletic Center. The win propels the Blue Angels to a 7-4 record on the season while the Lynx drop to 1-9 with the loss.
CNR senior Jah-Leah Ellis (Chicago, Ill.) recorded her tenth straight double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds while also adding four steals to her line to lead the Blue Angels. Freshman Hannah Cambel (Houston, Texas) provided a punch from the outside as she drained seven triples on her way to a game high 23 points. Sophomore Indigo Flowers (Castro Valley, Calif.) chipped in with six points, four rebounds, and three steals.
Lesley junior Jackie Ewing (Hong Kong) finished with nine points led the team with four assists and seven rebounds to pace the Lynx attack. Classmate Ari Dimou (Manchester, N.H.) also produced nine points while swiping three steals and dishing out three helpers. Sophomore Emily Meade (Derry, N.H.) recorded eight points, four rebounds, and two steals while freshman Kelsey Lynch (Rumford, R.I.) added eight points and three boards.
A Ja'Nasha King (Jersey City, N.J.) jumper gave the Blue Angels a 17-9 lead with just over 12-minutes to go in the first half before he Lynx would then pull themselves to within one, 21-20, following an 11-4 streak. Kelsey Lynch got the run started with an old fashioned three-point play before adding three more points on another and-one play to lead Lesley with six points during the spurt.
The Lynx would once again pull within one-point of the Blue Angels lead when Emily Meade connected for a layup with 8:01 to play, but the visitors put together a 6-0 run to give themselves a 30-24 edge with just over five-minutes to play. CNR would continue to stay hot through the final minutes of the opening half as they extended their advantage to 42-29 at the break.
The Blue Angels opened the second half on a 9-3 spurt to extend their lead to 51-32 and would not look back as they outscored the Lynx 32-17 in the second stanza on their way to the 74-46 victory.
CNR held a distinct 41-24 edge in rebounding and used 17 offensive boards to produce 23 second chance points. The Blue Angels hit on 48-percent of their field goal attempts while holding the Lynx to 37-percent on the afternoon.
The Lynx will be back in action when they battle Wheelock College in New England Collegiate Conference play at 8:00p on Tuesday on the campus of Pine Manor College. The Blue Angels are off until Monday, January 19th when they travel to Purchase College for a 7:00p start.
