NEW LONDON, CT -- Lesley broke a scoreless halftime tie with three second half goals in topping Mitchell, 3-0 Wednesday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference women's soccer play.
Lesley dominated possession on the day, earning all eight of the game's corner kicks and outshooting the Mariners 33-0. Still, the teams went into halftime in a scoreless tie in spite of a 15-0 Lynx advantage on shots through 45 minutes thanks to five Kaylee Woodford first half saves.
Sophomore Hannah Landerholm opened the scoring with her first goal as a Lynx, getting the better of Woodford for an unassisted tally at 56:35. Junior Sarah Apgar added an insurance goal, also unassisted, for her seventh of the season at 64:24, and Samantha Rapant spotted Kelsey Fitzgerald for a shot inside the far post in rounding out the scoring in the 85th minute.
In addition to landing her first career goal going as the eventual game-winner, Landerholm led all players with a career-high seven shots, lifting the first-place Lynx to 13-2-2 and 7-0 in NECC play.
Lesley returns to play on Saturday, honoring its senior class on Senior Night at 7:00 p.m. against Daniel Webster.
