Carruth's Clutch Goal Lifts Lynx Over Lions 2-1

BOSTON, MA. -- The Lesley Women's soccer team earned a hardfought victory over the Emerson Lions on Tuesday night by a score of 2-1. The win puts the Lynx at 6-1 on the season and the Lions fall to 6-2.

  • Both teams came into the match with only one loss on the season, setting up for a big showdown for the Charles River Cup.
  • Tayla Mayberry got the scoring started with a header in the 7th minute for her fourth goal of the season. It was the second time in the past two games that Mayberry opened the scoring.
  • The strong defensive fronts and goalies for both teams highlighted the next 70 minutes of gametime, with Brittley Gaan keeping Emerson off the board and Megan Rose limiting the Lynx to their one goal.
  • In the 78th minute, Alexa Ingersoll's equalized for Emerson. Ingersoll's first goal of the season kept the Lions in the game late.
  • It looked like the game would go into overtime until freshman Alex Carruth found the back of the net with fourteen seconds left in regulation. Carruth's second goal of the season and second in the last two games lifted Lesley over Emerson for good.
  • Gaan earned her first win of the season after saving nine of ten shots and taking the Charles River Cup for Lesley. The Lynx handed Rose only her second loss of the season.

The Lynx return home looking to build on their two game win streak for another non-conference matchup with Salve Regina on Thursday September 26th at 8 PM.
