CAMBRIDGE, MA. -- The Lesley Lynx Men's and Women's Cross-Country teams have both earned the top spot in the New England Collegiate Conference Pre-Championship Poll. The Lynx finished with eight points and two first place votes on the men's side, while the women finished tied for first with Mitchell College, each earning eight points and two first place votes.
Both teams are coached by Daniel Selsky, who is in his third year with Lesley University. Of his two teams, Selsky says "It's been fun being back at practice and going to meets after missing last year. I've enjoyed working with these student-athletes and watching the progress they've made. I can't wait to see them line up one last time and see all their work culminate in this season finale race!"
The men's team has been led by Zachary Spatz this season. Spatz, a freshman from Akron, Ohio, has finished first for the Lynx in every race they have been in this season. His best finish this season was 38th place in the Tri-State Invitational this season, with his fastest 8K time coming two weeks ago in the James Earley Invitational at 34:31.
The women's team is looking to improve upon their second place finish in the 2019 NECC Championship. The team is led by freshman Olivia Binette of Hampton, New Hampshire, who has twice been named the NECC Rookie of the Week this season. Binette finished seventeeth in the Tri-State Invitational, though her fastest time came James Earley Invitational where she finished the 5K in 21:09.9. Lesley has also seen strong performances from Paulina Sandoval-Alvarez, who topped out at 22:46.6, and Hannah Nangle, who has a top time of 21:49.9.
The 2021 NECC Cross Country Championship will be hosted by New England College, and will take place on Saturday, October 23 with the men's race at 10:00 AM and the women's at 11 AM.
