Men's tennis picked second in NECC poll

ATTLEBORO, MA -- Lesley men's tennis was picked to finish in second place in the New England Collegiate Conference by the league's head coaches, the league announced in today's 2011 preseason poll.

Mitchell College was picked to finish in first place, receiving 40 votes and all five first-place votes. The Mariners return two-time NECC Player of the Year Kyle Carmona, who went 9-0 in both singles and doubles play last season, and Rocco Devona, last year's NECC Rookie of the Year.

Lesley, which was tabbed for second place with 33 votes, returns its top three players, as well as a flight champion. First singles senior David Newton, second singles sophomore Nick Mattox and third singles sophomore Alex Zhitnik all went 6-3 in singles play a season ago. Christian Domingo, the 2010 NECC Fifth Singles Champion, returns after a 7-1 campaign last year.

Marty Morrissey's Lynx open the season at home on Saturday, March 26 against Wheelock at 1:00 p.m.
