Knox takes NECC Pitcher of the Week for third time

 PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Mitchell College sophomore Kyle Carmona (Norwich, Conn.) helped the Mariners finish the season undefeated and win its second straight New England Collegiate Conference title. Carmona and the Mariners went 3-0 on the week defeating Becker (8-1), Newbury (9-0) and Wheelock (9-0). While pairing with rookie winner Rocco Devona, the tandem grabbed three doubles wins 8-3, 8-1 and 8-1 respectively at the #1 position. Carmona defeated Becker's Charles Heard 6-2, 6-1, Newbury's Nicholas Sehovich 6-0, 6-1 and Wheelock's Wilson Chang 6-0, 6-0.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK –Mitchell College freshman Rocco Devona (Waterford, Conn.) again earned rookie honors helping the Mariners to a 3-0 NECC week.  While pairing with player of the Week Carmona, the tandem won all three #1 sets. Devona also went undefeated at the #2 singles spot taking down Becker's Chris Parker 6-4, 6-2, Newbury's Ryan Sevieri 6-0, 6-0 and Wheelock's Robert Venning 6-1, 6-2.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Bay Path senior shortstop/outfielder Sarah Gates (Crown Point, Ind.) led the Wildcats to a 4-0 conference sweep of Southern Vermont 3-2, 9-1 and Daniel Webster 16-15, 9-8.  Gates batted .625 (10-for-16), slugged .938 and had a .700 on-base percentage. She had multiple hits in all four games including scoring two game winners and notching the game winning RBI in another. Gates notched three doubles and one single. She was perfect in fielding with eight put-outs and one assist. She went 4-for-5 with four RBI and five runs in the valiant eleven inning victory over the Eagles.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Once again, Lesley University sophomore Cassandra Knox (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) was honored as the NECC Pitcher of the Week.  Knox hurled 27 innings going 4-0 on the week for the Lynx. Lesley finished the week 4-1 with Knox notching a no decision in the loss against Framingham State. She finished with a 1.00 ERA. Knox fanned 20 batters while only walking five for the week.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Daniel Webster College freshman centerfielder Chelsey Crawford (Westfield, Mass.) batted .433 (13-for-30) with 16 RBI, nine  runs, two doubles, one triple and one homerun. She helped the Eagles to a 4-4 weekly conference record. She finished with a solid .767 slugging percentage and a .424 on-base percentage. Crawford also notched three stolen bases and had a perfect fielding percentage with 19 put-outs.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Elms College junior infielder Brendan Cordeiro (Berkeley, Mass.) led the Blazers to a 3-3 week hitting safely in all six contests. Cordeiro batted .538 (14-for-26), slugged.808 and had a .586 on-base percentage while finishing with a .846 fielding percentage.  He notched six RBI, five doubles, three stolen bases and one triple. Cordeiro managed four multiple hit games including going 4-for-5 in a 9-3 victory over Southern Vermont.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Mitchell College senior pitcher Jeremy Chapman (Waterford, Conn.) pitched a 5-0 shut-out of NECC opponent Becker. He hurled a seven inning two-hit victory. Chapman fanned 11 batters, while walking only two Hawks. Chapman notched a 0.00 ERA for the week. Chapman has earned the NECC pitching honors four times this season.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Once again, Elms College freshman centerfielder Stephen Fisher (West Boylston, Mass.) takes rookie honors. He batted .458 (11-for-24) hitting safely in five of the six contests. The Blazers went 3-3 on the week. Fisher had a .792 slugging percentage and a .536 on-base percentage. He added nine RBI, one double, two triples and one homerun. Fisher notched three multiple hit games on the week.
