CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The 2007-2008 season has ended for the Lesley University women's basketball team, but two of the squad's players have earned North Atlantic Conference All-Conference honors.
Senior guard Courtnie Leakeas (Lowell, Mass.) was named to the NAC Second Team All-Conference and freshman forward Kaitlyn Wechsler (Merrick, N.Y.) was given an Honorable Mention by the conference.
Leakeas averaged 14.2 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2.9 apg and totaled 17 steals and four blocks in 13 conference games. Wechsler averaged 13.4 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 0.9 apg and totaled 23 steals and 3 blocks in 14 conference games.
In her final year in a Lynx uniform, Leakeas provided some memorable moments. She scored 20 points in 17 minutes in a victory over Anna Maria College to win the Bon Appetit Classic early in the season. In another non-conference match up against UMass-Boston, Leakeas netted 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a 60-55 win. She also had four assists and two steals in that game. Her best performance of the season came in a single digit loss to Maine Maritime Academy when she finished with 24 points, 9 rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
Leakeas also scored her 1,000th point of her Lesley career after scoring 11 points against Castleton State College. With her senior and final season in the books, Leakeas officially ends her career with 1,138 career collegiate points.
Wechsler has proven that she will be an offensive threat for the Lynx for the next three years after a solid rookie campaign. Against Husson College, the freshman finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Her best single effort came in a must-win game against Thomas College where Wechsler scored 25 points and had two assists and two steals.
Along with being named Honorable Mention from the NAC, Wechsler has also received Rookie of the Week honors on three separate occasions.
