CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University junior Maddy Kelly (San Jose, Calif.) netted the first goal of her collegiate career in what proved to be the game-winner as the Lynx shot past Daniel Webster College 4-0 in Lesley's New England Collegiate Conference opener on a wet, rainy Saturday afternoon at Edward Field.
The Lynx, winners of three straight, improve to 7-3-2 overall and 2-1-0 in NECC matchups while the Eagles drop to 0-7-0 on the year and 0-3-0 in conference play.
Kelly's tally in the sixth minute of action came on a header from a corner kick by sophomore Kai Morehead (Oxnard, Calif.) for the only goal of the opening half.
The Lesley offense would remain in gear in the second half as they found the back of the net three times. Senior Tori Ramirez (Redwood City, Calif.) would punch in her first goal of the season as she finished a feed from classmate Julie Essick (Boerne, Texas) in the 58th minute. Morehead and Essick are now tied for the team lead in assists with three apiece.
Ramirez would set up Lesley's third goal of the day when fellow senior Cassidy Hopkins (Porter, Texas) netted her third marker of the season in the 65th minute. The Lynx would add one more insurance tally in the 84th minute when sophomore Emily Paredes (Queens, N.Y.) picked up her first collegiate point with an assist to junior Karlie Rubin (San Diego, Calif.) who found the back of the net for the fifth time of the year.
Daniel Webster sophomore Stephanie Evans (Washington, Iowa) made 18 stops for the Eagles while her counterpart, freshman Brittley Gaan (Bellevue, Wash.) turned away a pair of shots to earn the win.
Lesley outshot Daniel Webster by a 38-2 margin and held all 13 of the game's corner kick opportunities.
The Lynx will look to stretch their win streak to four when they travel to #9 Brandeis University at 7:00p. The Eagles will also be back on the pitch on Tuesday and play host to Pine Manor College at 3:30p.
